Week 52, Day 1

When I emerged out of the building this morning, bleary eyed, I saw Mira, unlocking her bicycle. We used to be co-workers. She was heading off to work, and so was I, this time to a different school.

I only got 2 hours sleep, pretty poor quality sleep too, last night. I have been writing and reading a lot, and my mind is running around and won't switch off when the lights go out. This morning the toilet also blocked up, so the day got off to a Don't Panic start.

Caught the bus to Hwajeong and arrived 15 minutes early (which must be a new record for me).
I met all my co-workers. All Korean ladies, 2 of which also teach English, and 2 more that teach Math.
I basically start from 2pm, teach 2x25m classes per hour. No homework, and basically I have to just get through one or two pages and then chat about the words or ideas or whatever gets them talking. No big deal, till 7:30pm.

I'm earning more than I was at Kang's, have no prep, and it's less intense than Kang's where you have 4 classes in an hour, you have to prepare tests and pretend to be a Professional Wannabe. At GnB they know that kids don't have time, and also don't really want to study English, and so they are just given a few primers to helo them along. At a young age it's a useful addition to what they learn at school, but you're in love with yourself if you think you're going to churn out a few Shakespeares. These kids are sick of school by 5, 6, 7pm, and they should be. Part of the real reason we're out there working is their parents need them to be busy with something fairly constructive until they come home from work.

The kids are great, and help make an otherwise tedious role more interesting. One kid's name is 'Morning'. Quite a few characters. I'm enjoying getting to know them all. After only a few minutes I felt like I'd been at the school for a few weeks. Not sure if that is good or bad....let's say 'good'.

I had a few hotdogs in a lunchblik, and two cans of coke to skop my gat when my engine started dying on me.
Caught the bus and was back home at about 8pm, an hour before Mira will be back. Not a bad deal, but I'm still counting it down.

I also want to quickly write a treatise about oil. The situation in the Middle Eazzzzzzzzzzzzz...
