"I'm having fun." - Phelps.
Besides his dominance, the most striking thing about Phelps here has been his demeanor. When he's not racing, he can be seen smiling and laughing and looking rag-doll relaxed.
Asked to describe his handling of Phelps, Bowman said, "We just basically give him a little training and try to just keep him happy."
Bowman said that worrying comes with the territory when handling a once-in-a-lifetime talent like Phelps.
"I'm scared about everything," he said. "That's my job. I'm trying to think about my plan and are we on it."
"I'm having fun," Phelps said. "I've never been this relaxed." He added, "I think one of the reasons I've been able to be like this is because I've been there before."
