You do notice - in The Dark Knight - Batman's growl, it is probably the least realistic aspect in the film, but that said, I think it works. It's an appropriate opposite to the Joker's maniacal laughter, and it makes sense that the darker things become, the more aggro Batman becomes, and his voice evidences this.
