The Tshwane Metro Police have issued a warning to Pretoria motorists that heavy rains are expected over the city and especially the CBD on Monday afternoon.
On Friday, similar rains caused traffic chaos in the city with motorists caught in a gridlock lasting well over two hours.
“We are asking those motorists who could head straight home to do so,” spokesman William Baloyi said.
He warned motorists that roads would be slippery and that they should keep a safe following distance to avoid bumper bashings.

NVDL Cracks Top 100 (SA Blogs)
A lot can happen in 10 minutes on the internet, and in the broiling sky above our offices. In about that space of time this blog has rocketed from around 120-something to around 90th place (SA Top Blog's, by reads).
This is not only a factor of being relevant to South Africans. Right now Google Analytics puts the total number of visitors from the UK just edging out SA surfers, with the USA in 3rd.

Meanwhile, outside the clouds are gathering, and there are reports of police being dispatched in Pretoria in lieu of the approaching storm. If it gets any darker I think I'm also going to get out of here in the next 20 minutes, but something tells me, so is everyone else.
It also occurs to me that the internet is an incredibly vital and useful tool for the dessimnation of extreme weather warnings, at least, while the power is up and running in those HYPER-local areas. It's likely to become a trend as climate change intensifies around us.
SA Weather Services STORM Warning!
South African Weather Services has issued a High Importance Warning to Gauteng regarding serious storms TODAY, 08 October 2007. They have advised that motorists avoid travelling between 18:00 and 20:00 today. Please try to get home safely BEFORE the storms begin.
National Warning - Issued on Monday, 8 October 2007 at 06.00
Very cold conditions are expected to persist over the highground areas of Western and Northern Cape, as well as over the northern mountains of Eastern Cape and south-western and western interior of KwaZulu-Natal.
Heavy falls of rain are expected over northern KwaZulu-Natal, north-eastern Free State as well as the eastern highveld of Mpumalanga and Gauteng. Severe thunderstorms, associated with strong, damaging surface winds are expected in late afternoon and evening over the eastern highveld, Gauteng, the southern highveld of Mpumalanga and extreme northern Free State.

Don't underestimate the strength of the wind on the road and avoid low water bridges when driving.
Stay indoors and take all loose lying objects inside. Tie down anything that might be damaged by severe winds. If possible park cars indoors as well.
