The World Health Organization has now reported confirmed cases in 88 countries, and swine flu has been blamed in 167 deaths worldwide. The first case in sub-Saharan Africa, in a 12-year-old boy who had just arrived in South Africa from the United States, was added Thursday.

Health officials have warned that the virus could kill more people once it spread in countries with more malnutrition and AIDS and weaker health facilities than in the North American countries where it started.
