I went to the doctor today (who is also riding in the Argus next weekend) and I am really glad I did.
I called him last Saturday and he agreed over the phone with my diagnosis. He then precribed a 3 day antibiotic, with limited results.
After examination he said that I will probably be fine in 24 hours, after which, he added, I will feel worse again. The reason is because the Streptococus bacteria has moved from the phalynx to the sinus passages and also the ear cavity. This explains the terrible pain I have in my inner ears.
He prescribed more antibiotics and said I should continue to lay off training for a few days.
After listening to my heartbeat, and taking my blood pressure, he said he was sure I'd be recovered and fine to do both the Argus and Ironman. So happy about that.
I had my blood tested aswell, for protein, just to be sure something else isn't waiting to come out in these last two weeks.
He also prescribed a really good multivitamin called Apex. I went to pick that up an hour ago at the Supersport gym, and had a look at the pool. Nice. Also met a girl downstairs, Fransa, who wants to travel through Thailand sometime. She seems to be fascinated with Ko Phi Phi (where the movie 'The Beach' was shot. The place is probably under reconstruction now.
Good news is I can use the green bakkie to go to the wedding in Kroonstad on Saturday.
Speaking of green, there's a play I intend to watch at the Andre Huegenot called Flashing Green Man.
My father and I are going to Soetdoring to see the lions before my flight out of Bloemfontein on Thursday evening. I watched an interesting documentary on National Geographic about Snowy Leopards (the closest living relative to the sabre toothed tiger). Beautiful cats. That has made me want to go to Soetdoring and photograph the lions feeding. Should be good.
I will probably not think about training again until Monday, when I just need to lift my fitness level slightly. After 7-10 days it must have slipped a little. At least I know I am not going into this Ironman overtrained!
