Crazy Confusion

Is today Saturday? I'm glad that is cleared up. I woke up at the botanical gardens today (after a pleasant meal and two Jack Daniels) and it was the 14th of the 9th and I rushed somewhere and it turned out my watch was also ahead by about 20 minutes, or 11 hours 40 if you count the fact that it registered 'am' instead of afternoon. How did that happen?

Rushed to the mechanics after that to fetch the bakkie, then to the stadium pool to watch a good friend of mine's son, Michael Meyer (about 12 years old) in his 200m backstroke race. He was the smallest kid in the field, and came in second. It basically translates to second in South Africa. Not bad.

I took the time of the fastest 11 year old in a relay and it was 30.69 seconds, about the same time I swam in 1983 in Kroonstad. Will be going there tomorrow to a friends wedding.

Anyway it feels as though one relationship is winding down and another possibly revving up. In terms of work I have had 2 calls for interviews, and one rejection. Maybe someone at Quintiles heard me say, "Even if I get the job I doubt whether I will take it."

Ruth, my father's girlfriend, has been in hospital for 4 days now after a catch scratched her and the wound turned septic. Apparently the bacteria out there is getting vicious. She is a diabetic so it is much harder to administer antibiotics, or so I have been led to believe.

I watched CONSTANTINE tonight, alone, though not for lack of trying. Quite enjoyed it, probably because I enjoy Keanu Reeves. He is to me the perfect movie actor. Not too smart, not too dumb, with chuzpah - or is it just lack of visible emotion?

The Botanical Gardens, Gala and trip to McDonalds (didn't eat anything there though) were all good. Am a bit disappointed I didn't have the presence of mind to take my camera along.

When I woke up this morning I did a few sums and realised with a pang that I have already spent R25 000. That's in just over 2 months. Scary. Imagine how much more that figure would have been if a month of that wqasn't in Bloem. Then again I have been eating out a lot here, despite home cooked meals. I think the biggest drain on finances has been the cellphone and the internet. Both of those are probably at R10 000 together. Quite a premium to pay on communication!

I'm glad though I have clarified the expense, so now I can go into the next few months a bit leaner and meaner. Two more weeks to the Ironman, and the throat is still hurting? Will I make or break?
