Dube Dead: Crime Set To Soar

On my way to work I heard on 94.7 that Lucky Dube was shot dead last night in Rosettenville. I read a short bio about the guy last week. His parents named him 'Lucky' because there were complications when he was born, and he wasn't expected to survive. He went on to become one of South Africa's greats.

Meanwhile, with prices rising - from food, to clothes to fuel, poverty in this country is becoming even more intractable. It is the economic degradation of a population base that leads to inequalities, which leads to discontent and crime.

This bodes ill towards the 2010 World Cup and Beyond.
