The Waiting Game

I arrived in Johannesburg last night at about 6pm. Had quite an interesting conversation with John, the chap who drove me up. Nice transport - a gold Mercedes.

Allan was kind enough to pick me - quite a way away from his home, and dricing through a lot of cats and dogs. It's actually raining everywhere - quite unusual for the sunniest country in the world (8.5 hours average).

Allan played some songs he intends to showcase next Wednesday at a competition (Allan, post the details in the 'comments' section, where, ticket prices etc). Also listened to a guy called Jack Johnson. Laid back, nice guitar sound, deep tones. Like it, might buy it.

Had a very good night's sleep, and woke up at 5am, but lay in for a while.
After marmalade on toast and some coffee headed with Allan to the Virgin Active. His introduction (he is member) saved me R20.

Swim: 1:25
Distance: 3km
Did 500m kicking, 4x 250m, and lots of sprints and stroking. Felt quite fresh after the 3km.

Weight (before run): 86.3kg

Run: 0:40
Distance: 6.3km
T-shirt was soaked. Felt really hungry after the run.

Gym: 20 minutes (no pullups)

Weight: 85.3kg

Total time at gym, over 3 hours.
Called Grant and he said I could only pick up the ISUZU at around lunch.

Wtahced a movie called The Family Stone. Kind've cheezy, but also kind've sweet and sentimental. Though, don't like Diane Keaton any more. She grates the nerves. Sarah Jessica acted quite well I thought.

Also saw the preview to Superman. Looked good.
Now it's 13:07. Is time about up? Can I skedaddle soon?
Gonna make a call now and find out...

Turns out the car would pick me up at 3pm, and I would have a beautiful drive - under a flaming sky through a meteorite flattened landscape (but no signboards in sight as testament to the world's largest impact site). Then after Welkom, I found myself boxed in with three or four big trucks in front on me, on a road too small to even wear a bra (and thus shoulderless), meanwhile the truck behind me looked like he was going to ram me or nudge me to overtake. I saw some scary scenes of busses and trucks overtaking each other on blind rises. Fear death? Fear carnage on the roads? Some people seem to have a strategy of wishful thinking. Not me.

My waiting game ended after 9pm when I arrived in Bloemfontein. Had a burger (earlier had a delcious vegetarian meal), and then showed off the silver bullet to some people. Supposed to go cycling at 5am tomorrow. Need to get this done quickly so I can hit a pillow.

I'm impressed by the way you were killing time. Hope the Drakensberg makes up for the wait...
