Teacher Sprayed Students With Pesticide
JEJU -- A teacher at an elementary school in Seogwipo city on Jeju Island sprayed troublesome students with cockroach killer earlier this month.
The school and Seogwipo Office of Education said Wednesday a 47-year-old teacher at the school on June 1 scolded a girl and three boys in a sixth-grade class and sprayed them with pesticide when they failed to respond.
The school admitted the spraying but denied claims by students and parents that the teacher called them "less than cockroaches" as he sprayed them. The schools assistant principal said the teacher explained he warned students who were not listening in class but sprayed their lower bodies when they would not behave.
The school said it had a written explanation from the teacher and parents have received apologies. The teacher has applied for a transfer to a different region and will make the move as part of regular personnel reshuffles in September, it added.
