The eighth case of the H1N1 influenza (or swine flu) was confirmed in Gauteng, the Department of Health said on Thursday.

Spokesman Fidel Hadebe said the most recent case was confirmed during the week, of a 27-year-old South African woman who had returned from travelling in Europe.

She made a full recovery and was back at work, Hadebe said.

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) reported a total of eleven cases as of July 1.

"There is a total of eleven (11) laboratory-confirmed cases of novel influenza a/h1n1 in South Africa. There is no evidence to date of community transmission," the NCID said on its website.
