I felt invigorated after today's exertions. Unfortunately, many of my students didn't. I poured out a lot of energy today and got rewarded in my verry first class with 'Fuck you.'
I let that one go, didn't even respond to it. In my very last class I caught a kid giving me the finger, a little pipsqueak. I called him to the front and had him stand with both arms in the air for the rest of the class. None of that stuff bothers me much now, possibly because I have other, more important fish to fry. On the other hand, it's fine that they do that because they will, one fine day, be the recipients of an almost 6 foot 'up yours', in the form of an invisible man.
Not all my kids are sons of Satan. I have some darlings, and sometimes the kids take my hand and walk me to my classroom or hug my legs or something. But there's a whole echelon who jabber away in Korean the second I look away, or focus on another student, even if I have yelled at a million decibels inches from their faces to SHUTUP. It just has no effect. Another trick is, if I am sitting down, to ignore everything I say until I get up off my seat.
Fortunately, there are enough worker bee students for me to feel that some of them are learning something. In my third class, all the students are attentive and there's a lovely vibe in that class. Same in two others classes, but one of those two is bigger, so it's not as easy to get everyone walking the English tightrope.
The new teacher, Jessica, and I have become good friends. She's really attractive, and even though she's married, she's very open and friendly towards me. She has a beautiful mouth, and is a very graceful young woman otherwise.
Suji looked like she'd walked out of a graveyard today. I think she's battling with flu. She looked very tired and unhappy today. Shame.
And the director was almost shouting at his fiance today. I was in the room and he was really giving it to her. Not screaming, but speaking in a loud voice. After he left I asked her what he was angry about, and she said, "He doesn't like the student's schedules."
He also shouted at some of the students. That's not something you should be doing if you're trying to create Neverland School, where no one studies, there's no punishment, the desks are made of chocolate and the pens and pencils are pepperos (biscuit sticks covered in chocolate).
I did get paid, I checked just before catching the bus.
I'm going to try to not waste money this month, and that includes going out drinking. Going to eat a lot of toast, and avoid Outback, TGI's and other more expensive restaurants. My sister has been nagging me for some money, and my father asked me yesterday if I'm planning to buy a car...it's just an inkling of the cash outflows to come.
So not going to do too much boozing or bar flying. I'll say my goodbyes at something convenient, like Corneli and So Young's birthday party. Don't think I'm going to socialise much beyond that, other than a last Club Day in Hongdae.
I'm going to pick up my passport tomorrow.
