Week 15 Day 2 & Blackout

Run 8km
Time: 47:30
Average Heart Rate: 131 (Maximum 160)

Ran up Naval Hill with Petro and Jacques. Was very deurmekaar (confused) when he called, and ended up driving to number 14, then number 40, then going to the toilet at the Shell garage and running up Milner from there. Turns out he lives at number 12, so I was totally off, and found Petro on the road when I ran up, so we ended up running up together at a perfect conversational pace. Leg felt fine while running, but tender and slightly sore when walking.

We saw a giraffe standing square on the road once on the top, a bit like a dinosaur, and also saw a rabbit scurry away.
The early morning view was quite nice. Lots of Godlight and light mists hanging halfway to the far far horizon. It's amazing how far you can see, because the land is so flat and the air so clean. Thaba Nchu must be about 30-40km away and you can see it really clearly once you get onto a slight elevation.

Right foot is quite tender, especially when walking. Am going to Physio at 4pm for some massage and dry needling. I hope it does the trick, as I need to run a lot this week.

At 12:30 I tried to draw money at the ABSA atm at Preller, and the computers are still refusing to 'process' the request. Is it because of Solal (Chinese New Year holidays) I wonder?

Went to the pharmacy at Preller and had a Vitmain B complex shot. It's something I tried to do in Korea but they just don't do that.
I got a shot just below my belt line (on the bum) and felt suddenly quite lame as far as my toes as the serum went in.
When I got to the counter I suddenly felt the floor falling out of my stomach, and I fought a sudden onset of nausea.
I blacked out completely, and woke up feeling warm and comfortable on the floor, with a circle of unfamiliar faces staring at me from above. I was lying on the ground, I didn't know where, and these strange people were standing around me, over me, just watching. Am I dead? Am I mad? Alien abduction perhaps?

The lady who administered the serum apparently caught me, couldn't quite hold me, and a really big guy took over, and just lay me down on the floor. When I came to my brain just didn't seem to connect. I was like a computer that has just been rebooted. On, but not quite on, not quite ready for prompts, and commands, if you know what I mean.
I was surprised that I didn't feel any pain because I guessed I must have just fallen. The pharmacy guy, a very big jovial, warm kind've guy, said I fell really really slowly and he had plenty of time to catch me. I know while it was happening I felt the blood drain from my face, and I tried to resist it but the lights still suddenly went out, then came on again. A strange experience. The people were really kind though.

I spent a few minutes sitting on a padded green bench in the corner, getting my bearings. After 1 or 2 minutes I tried to stand and felt the blood drain from my face again. The old man sitting next to me asked if I was alright. It was a very humanising experience. Here I was, supposedly fit as a fiddle, but having a serious time trying to simply walk, stay conscious, and beside me was this really old guy, asking me if I was fine.

They gave me an Energade to drink and asked me when last I ate. I did have breakfast, some Kelloggs All Bran, at about 7am, and a little bit of juice, and a prickly pear, but I was obviously pretty empty by lunchtime.
Finally I called Jen and told her I'd be a bit late for lunch and managed to get up the second time.
When I paid a woman with short dark hair smiled at me and said she'd wanted to catch me. I said, "Maybe next time."

They told me athletes often come in, and quite a few of them pass out. That's reassuring. I drove the Jeep to the Varsity without further mishap. Quite a pleasant, if bewildering experience. I have a slight headache now, but otherwise feel fine. A bit hungry, although I ate some pancakes at Traumerei.

Will try to swim, and possibly cycle later. Want to run but my leg just seems too weak to put the pressure of two runs in a single day on it.
Will post more info about today's training once it's done...

Swim: 2.5km
Time: 50 minutes
1st km: 14:50
4x250m on 5 minutes. Best time: 3:17 (new record for the year, previous best was 3:19)
Weight: 78.95kg
Have been sticking to a mostly fruit and veg diet so far this week. Posted by Hello
