People are people no matter how small
The movie Horton is going to be used by Free State University as a way to promote integration, especially to new students.
The movie essentially presents two characters from vastly different worlds (Horton from the jungle and the Mayor of Who-ville living on a speck), which is vividly analogous to the South Africa problem of dis-integration. The film brilliantly establishes the basic decency (even if it appears crazy at first) that even if you can't see or hear someone, it doesn't mean they don't exist. It is about being respectful and curious of the world beyond our own, even if that world is simply a cultural world apart.
Whilst still in concept stage, I believe this is an intelligent and creative response to an otherwise dispiriting challenge; the movie Horton Hears A Who cleverly and affirmatively presents 'why we should care' in a charming, fun and comedic yarn based on stories and characters devised by Dr. Seuss, the popular American writer.
