Eight Top Fields with Major Job Growth

The Big Opportunities

Some of the brightest futures are available in eight of the fastest growth industries and the top occupations that occur within them, as projected by the U.S. Department of Labor Bureau of Labor Statistics.

1. Industry: Home Health Care Services

Occupations: Registered nurses, health aids, nursing and physical therapists.
Where the jobs are: Private agencies, residential care facilities, family services, private households.

NVDL: Ummm...pass

2. Industry: Software Publishers

Occupations: Developers, system administrators, project manager, analysts.
Where the jobs are: Telecommunication companies, banks, hospitals, major retailers, transportation and freight companies.

NVDL: Right here, doing that. The software side starts to look exciting where you are the gatekeeper and own the software platform. It's in this area that being a creative and imaginative writer and thinker, basically a visual artist, starts to appear to have a point, and one begins to see tremendous opportunities not only to do good, to be altruistic, but also to become enormously wealthy in doing so.

I also see great potential in logistics companies (think Fedex, home delivery etc).

3. Industry: Management, Scientific and Technical Consulting

Occupations: Sales, marketing, financial services, software engineers, program managers.
Where the jobs are: Bio-tech firms, pharmaceutical companies, manufacturers, call centers.

NVDL: Been there. It's exciting if you're an accountant. It does also connect in some ways to the industries that are into Logistics. But it is freaking boring and often meaningless work.

4. Industry: Residential Care

Occupations: Nursing assistants, physical therapy assistants, occupational therapy assistants, private nurses.
Where the jobs are: Private hospitals, private agencies, outpatient care centers.

NVDL: Pass, although personal training for a season could be fun, especailly wioth the tag line: 'Become your all-time Olympic Best.'

5. Industry: Facilities Support Services

Occupations: Property managers, building coordinators, administrative personnel.
Where the jobs are: Asset management companies, government, commercial developers, real- estate firms, hotels, universities, hospitals.

NVDL: Possibly interesting, if highly stressful. Have discussed the idea of developing a sustainable, walkable, connected community development with my father and he is interested, if cautious about input costs. Let's call it a crucial work in progress.

6. Industry: Employment Services

Occupations: Recruiters, human resource managers, benefits administrators.
Where the jobs are: Placement firms, professional employer organizations, major corporations, hospitals, universities.

NVDL: Sorry, I think this one is just plain wrong. I think there is going to be net job shedding worldwide in 2008 and it will worsen from there. Peak Oil necessarily means an end to growth, contraction, and that means increased unemployment.

7. Industry: Independent Artists, Writers and Performers

Occupations: Graphic design, photography, copywriting, website design, musical performers, dancers, actors.
Where the jobs are: Restaurants, night clubs, casinos, newspapers, advertising agencies, theaters, television stations, cable networks, private agents.

NVDL: This is the area I am both inside and moving to fully integrate with. I see myself as agent, artist, writer, producer, director - depending on the project. Right now I am looking to develop more websites, a Game platform, setup another exhibition and design a Photography Warehouse, and to look to manage and develope talent (actors, models, writers) I recognise through my network.

This blog may soon split in two to focus more specifically on:
Photography Athletiscism Writing Nuturing (PAWN) as opposed to News, Politicals and Environmental Concerns.

8. Industry: Office Administration

Occupations: Office manager, administrative assistants, paralegals, legal assistants.
Where the jobs are: Financial institutions, government, law firms, corporations, non-profit organizations.

NVDL: Blah blah.
