Red Days

On my way to Mimosa, I passed a guy in the parking lot, big hair, Asian, wearing a red t-shirt with 'Be The Reds'. I asked him, in passing, "Are you from Korea?" A gurgled, apparently unhappy response. How else could he have gotten the shirt...maybe as a gift.

I've spent precvious sleep time this morning editing the prepublished issue. It starts to drive you crazy after a while. You know what it is? When other people write down things without thinking them through, or just say stupid things, it's up to you to untie all their silly knots, with the result that it starts dumbing you down.

Eeek. I have just pulled a tick off my tick. A tiny one...but eeew nevertheless.

Today is the first day of...yes, the rest of my life, and my Virgin Active Membership kicking in.
I know I said I would go cycling yesterday with Franna. It rained the whole day, fairly heavily, and only cleared later this morning.
So I didn't cycle. Not going to start training in cold and wet weather when I have just been sick.

At lunch today all eyes were on the pieces of chicken I was consuming. Will he or won't he eat the skin. I ate the skin.
I am on a crusade to lose weight, and Fransa, having seen the shape I was in three months before the Ironman, she's insisting I get back to that sort of shape again. Well, I have been telling her all along that I'm not used to being this heavy or wobbly. Maybe many people say the same thing, so when I say it, it falls on deaf ears.
I ought to take a BEFORE picture. I know I made predictions about losing weight and getting to shape in South Korea. Let me assure you, exercising and living a healthy lifestyle in South Africa is far easier accomplished.

Last night I had a bit of a night on the town. Went to Ooh Long Lounge...lovely place. Justus, enjoying time away from work, forbade me to take photographs. Some delicious ladies, and beautiful sushi. I wanted to show that even in Bloemfontein you can get good Asian food. Yes, Asian food in Africa, who would have thought? The evidence, will have to wait.
After that we went to Stones, a joint inhabited by Neanderthals. We only went in for the pools. Lots of just-turned-eighteen year olds populated the hall, some quite fresh faced eye candy.
I actually got turned away at the door on account of my white sandals. I drove the GT home in a torrent of rain, then stopped at Total to buy airtime. I had to reverse with the rearview window (about the size of a banana) and misted up. I turned as I reversed, seeing a useful exit point on my right. As I turned, a small cement island with a fuel pump swung by my window. It's pure luck that I didn't back end silver metal into that lot and create, position, a small explosion.

After pool we went to Mystic. Some out-of-work actresses were there (Anne's friends). One of them, a brunette with dark, deep eyes, (who looks chillingly like an ex-girlfriend of mine), is selling vegetables (groente) for a living. She (Almarie)rehearsed Oscar speeches, and confirmed my suspicion: she wants to act in Isidingo.
Lizelle, a red head, is selling jewellery at Brown's in Mimosa. I suggested we do a piece in Heartland on out'of'work actresses. A kind of Pop Idol goes actress-looking-for-work in a magazine format.

Had a few shots, glasses of wine and other yellow liquids. Walked home shouting and skipping through wet streets. I slept on the couch even though I had a key to get into the rest of the house.

Yes. Crime. There is a bit of it in this country. Anne's cellphone got stolen at Mystic. A few days ago someone was shot in the chest and robbed at Mystic. And so on and so forth. Still, the sunshines and birdsong drowns out the sound of gunfire.

Tonight I'm going to gym, then watching War of the Worlds at my brothers house on DVD.
I need to choose between a birthday party in Bloemfontein tomorrow, and driving the GT up to Johannesburg for a much bigger party. There's also the final of the Energade triathlon series at Vanderbijl.

Why red days? Well, from time spent in the sun, and the effects of exertion.
