She reportedly was visited by a man she befriended earlier in the year when he was part of a building crew working on renovations at the home.

She said they had sat watching TV, with Marzanne on her lap, when the man attacked her.

The little girl celebrated her first birthday two days before the attack.

"There isn't much change since she was taken off the ventilator on Friday morning... the machine is not breathing for her anymore," Liezl Furlong said. The baby and her minder Francina Sekhu were brutally assaulted last month in an alleged house robbery at the Kruger family home in Robindale, Randburg. Marzanne suffered serious head wounds and was kept under sedation until Friday. Sekhu also suffered head injuries and was still recovering. Two men, Nelson Maphosa, 28, and Geraldt Nyantumbo, 25, appeared in court last week on charges of attempted murder and robbery with aggravated circumstances. He said judging from many calls received by the Krugers, South Africans across the political spectrum were deeply depressed about the crime.
