SHOOT: Human Relations 101. It's also one of the most basic premises in the Bible - love thy neighbor as thyself, or even, love thy enemy. For a country that claims to be a majority Christians country, it's odd that they support torture.
I think the future security of America will come under threat increasingly not from the without, but from within. As more and more consumers become have-nots, unemployed mobs will take to the streets and take out their feelings of anger and disenfranchisement on whatever makes sense to them. Blaming won't improve anyone's prospects, but like a wife beater, it may feel better and feel like something is achieved while this is happening.
Americans tendency to go to war and to imprison others without trial has set a precedent, and will come to haunt it's own citizens, as this sort of practise gains momentum on home soil against US citizens.
"To uphold the integrity of our Constitution for ourselves and for the world, it is important" that the U.S. close the Guantanamo prison, said Diana Jones, 68, a Democrat from Timonium, Md., who has faith in Obama's terror-battling abilities. "We need to treat other counties as we would want them to treat us." Plus, she added, keeping the prison open puts U.S. troops overseas at risk.
Countered Steve Marsh, 50, a Republican from Guntersville, Ala., who doesn't think Obama is strong enough on terrorism: "I'd just rather see them there than see them here on our soil. ... They don't, in my opinion, deserve to be treated as part of our prison system here. They need to be kept separate."
Obama ordered the prison's closure and emphatically stated "we don't torture" just days after taking office as he sought to improve a sullied world image. But since then, he has found that making good on those campaign promises has, perhaps, been more difficult than anticipated.

For someone who claims 2 be
ReplyDeletean atheist u seem 2 quote from the bible quite a lot.
Ummm...I'm quoting in a language you obviously understand. I used to be a Christian so I understand it all backwards, and I also understand exactly why blind faith can be quite dumb, and dangerous.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes go to church and find some of the arguments quite sticky, quite convincing. My girlfriend also is a Christian. I respect the motive - trying to do good, be a good person. Sharing a sense of community. People without religion don't always have easy ways to demonstrate that, or palces to congregate to do so.
Also, I'm not an atheist. I thought I was. Then I thought I was an agnostic. Now I realise I'm a pantheist. I sort've believe in a nameless, faceless God that probably doesn't exist, although it sometimes feels like something infinitely intelligent and awesome is out there. Maybe there's just the ancient universe. It would be nice if there was more. Does that answer your non-question?
every1 is entitled to their own opinion and I hear what ur sayng.
