Stupid driving can wipe out a family in an instant [Hornsnek crash]

NEWS24: The baby who was flung from a bakkie after it made a U-turn right in front of oncoming traffic on the Ben Schoeman highway on Workers' Day has died.

The girl, estimated to be about two years old, was found in the tall grass between the north and south bound lanes by tow-truck drivers.

Wierdabrug police spokesperson Inspector Ilze Jones said on Tuesday the baby was dead on arrival at the hospital.

The bakkie driver also died.

SHOOT: One man, the driver of a bakkie, thanks to his stupidity has cost the lives of his own baby daughter, and at least three other children. This was because he was too lazy to find a better place to turn his car around. If you're going to take risks like this on the road, make sure you're the only one who pays.

A young Pretoria girl critically injured in a horrific accident that claimed the lives of her two sisters and left her mother and her sole remaining sister critically injured has died.
Marissa van der Sandt, 9, died in Montana Hospital on Tuesday, a day after her sisters Miranda, 10, and Lynette, 4, were killed when their mother crashed into a VW Golf that was doing a U-turn on a blind curve on Hornsnek Road. They were on their way to school.
Lynette's twin sister, Estelle, who shows no signs of brain activity, is fighting for her life in Akasia Hospital, where she is on several life-support machines.
It is believed that the children's mother, Antoinette, who was also injured in the accident and is recovering in Montana Hospital, is unaware that three of her children are dead.
Family of the Van der Sandts yesterday confirmed that Marissa had died in hospital. "We are broken. We do not know what to do. This entire family has been destroyed," said the children's uncle, Andre de Waal.
