SHOOT: Zille made a remark that in the election ANC voters voted with their hearts rather than their heads. This is taken to be a racial slur. These levels of intolerance are highly questionable.
During an interview on Kaya FM after the election, Zille said the majority of people who voted for the ANC did not use their minds but their hearts when making that decision.
A member of the public has complained to the Human Rights Commission, arguing that Zille’s statement was racist.
“... It is a known fact that the majority of ANC voters are black people. It is also known that whites in the old regime perceived black people as the species that cannot apply their minds correctly,” complained Gideon Mongwe of Kempton Park.
Lufuno Mmbadi of the HRC said the matter would be investigated.
