Corrupt Home Affairs really sucks - US Report [PHOTOGRAPHS]

SHOOT: This is a warning to incoming government...when I read this I mis-read it as a warning to the *incompetent* government. My experience (see below) confirms the incompetence. I also noticed fraudulent debit orders going off my account on more than one occasion since handing in my personal details to home affairs.
I went to Home Affairs to get a temporary passport. I had to go back 2-3 times (still don't have it), and each time, they had a different excuse.

All South Africans travelling to Britain will need a visa starting from March, the British embassy said Monday, citing lax security on passports issued here.

US slams 'corrupt' SA home affairs department

Poor administration and corruption at the Department of Home Affairs has resulted in thousands of fraudulent passports, identity documents and work permits being issued, according to a recently-released United States government report.

Together with border security problems, this has affected South Africa's ability and efforts to counter terrorism, says the US state department's Country Reports on Terrorism 2008.
The highly-critical report has prompted local lawyer Gary Eisenberg, who chairs the Immigration and Nationality Committee of the International Bar Association, to call for a shake up at the department
