AS CONTROVERSY rages over the medical parole of convicted fraudster Schabir Shaik, his “friend”, fellow inmate and medical parole applicant, Sipho Khumalo, died while waiting to be released.
Khumalo’s family, from the KwaZulu-Natal township of KwaDabeka, are preparing to bury the Westville Medium B Correctional Centre prisoner tomorrow.
He died in prison last Thursday, two days after his “friend” Shaik was released on medical parole, on the grounds that he was in the final stages of a terminal illness.
