At around midday today I was sitting outside chowing down when I heard an infernal racket - a fire engine and other vehicles racing around the outside of our offices. They were headed towards Oxford Road, which was submitting an application for recognition as the biggest manmade hole in the world.
They say the road will be closed for 2 weeks. It's going to add to the already tight congestion in this area.
I'm not sure these construction projects will ever be completed. As fuel costs go up, the profits that are based on tenders supplied many months ago simply evaporate. We're already seeing players falling out of the World Cup stadia, and PE has just fallen out of the running for the Cup of Nations. We really need every railway project we can get online to be brought online. I have my doubts whether we'll be in a happy place in terms of our resource base come Christmas.
