1st human case of bird flu reported in Indonesia

JAKARTA, June 16 (Xinhuanet) -- An Indonesian poultry worker has been tested positive of bird flu to become the country's first human case after mounting reports of infected chickens, local media reports said Thursday.

The worker has undergone two laboratory tests since March and the results were positive, reported The Jakarta Post online news service.

Steven Bjorge, an official with the World Health Organization in Jakarta, was quoted as saying the worker had "a recent infection" following a test at a Hong Kong laboratory.

The second test was completed this month but health officials lost the track of the person and his poultry business in South Sulawesi province went bankrupt.
