The Law of Precedent

Precedent. noun
1 {C} an action, situation or decision which has already happened and which can be used as a reason why a similar action or decision should be performed or taken:
- There are several precedents for promoting people who don't have formal qualifications.

This word has been driving me crazy. Tried to remember it last night, agonised for about an hour, then amazingly came across it while reading Into Thin Air, then forgot it again.

This was a legal term an ex-girlfriend of mine suggested I use to renegotiate my contract in Korea. Obviously in a professional environment that would have had some effect, but as it was, the negotiations were actually just distrustful demands, top down. Glad I'm not there any more.
The precedent idea didn't work where I worked because they simply ducked and dived and switched positions so much to render such an idea nonsensical, and you can't negotiate an educated position with people who aren't interested in education or being intelligent.
Fact is, how they run their business is nonsensical. Somehow though, they are still in business, which just goes to show, starting a business, even if you do almost everything wrong, might still work based on the basic fact that it is there. So that is an encouraging insight to take away from working there.

40 Days, 40 Nights is on the box now. Quite interesting. About abstinence for 40 days and nights. Wonder if I should try that. It means abstinence from any sexual activity, including masturbation, any kind of fondling, pornography etc.
