Beware Of Tortoises

I'm in Jeffrey's Bay today after driving over 700km along the Garden Route from Cape Town. I have 3 more sets of 36 photos each to develop and will possibly post those pictures later today. These picture are all from my Sharp camera, and Foto First actually burns them to CD for R25 which shows you South Africa is on keeping up with what's happening.

I am very stiff and sore after the drive. The drive was good. Had some oysters in Knysna, and got to know Marelize a bit better. She drove from Cape Town to Riviersonderent (River without end) and I drove the rest of the way. It's wonderful to be flying over highways at 120km/h with no traffic jams in sight, and just open countryside, and blue sky. It was just very hot, and her car doesn't have aircon. We had a few boxes of wine in the back, my bike, and a lot of bags and stuff. So the Chico was pretty packed, but it did an amazing job for a 1.3.

On Sunday I had an incredible cycle from Hermanus to Gordon's Bay. I set off at 6pm, and got to 4km outside of Gordon's Bay when it was just too dark to continue (at about 8:40pm).
The wind blasted me from behind mostly, so my average speed for 81km was 32.5km. The sunset was stunning from the cliffs, the sky was like a huge pink spider, streaking all over the sky, and the wind whipped huge plumes of sea into the air, as though giant invisible helicopters were swooping just above it. The wind was so strong, it felt I was holding onto a door. My bicycle wheel often just swung wildly to one side (a sheer drop down to the rocks and sea below) so I had to be careful not to get too close to the edge of the road, and also not stray to far to the right and get in the way of passing cars. Mercifully there were almost no cars on the rtoad. It was a great hardcore cycle, and I'm still stiff from it today, two days later.

The girl at the Fotofirst shop is training for the Argus, so we've made tentative arrangements to get together, her, her boyfriend, CJ and me and do a few rides to St Francis Bay. Today is quite windy so will probably just run on the beach today and rest some more.

I'm enjoying this trip immensely, and trying not to eat so much.
I have managed to train, though.
2 weeks ago I managed to do 12 hours total.
My goal was to do 14 hours this weak, but I only managed 11hours 58 minutes. Interesting I burned far fewer calories and my total distance is more. I believe I'm already fitter and more efficient than last week.

This week I'd like to do about 15-17 hours, and get into a more rigorous diet.
It's 12:50 now and I have to fetch the CD's with the pictures now, and get breakfast. I still haven't eaten anything.

It's great to be here where things are a bit more settled and organised. I unpacked last night, and had a bath, and got to sleep at 2am. I slept till 9:30am which is my latest sleep thus far.
My washing should be done when I get home, and also need to buy some more shirts and shorts as recycling them doesn't work so well when they get dirty, especially when it's so hot and you're swimming in the sea and running around half the time.

I'll try to get the remaining pictures up today and tomorrow.
