Who am I?

This is how I feel in a nutshell. There is definitely some work to be done.

I am very conscious of my right foot, because today it hurt quite a lot just walking on it. If that continues to be the case I will have to get into the pool more, and on the bike, and maybe the gym as well. Tomorrow's session is hills, which will actually not put too much pressure on it because the downhill side I do very very easily, and it is paved. Tomorrow may be D-Day though. If my foot hurts too much I will quit the session. I think I will also run in different shoes.

I think I will get a very early night tonight (in comparison with my usual bedtimes...) because I had 3-4 hours sleep last night, and not very good quality sleep at that.

I got some interesting emails today.

One was from Xanadu (In Xanadu did Kublai Khan a saintly pleasure dome decree ...) Travel giving me the dates for a possible trip to Thailand, BUT all flights are full so I will be put on a waiting list. That is actually perfect. If a spot opens I'll take it and if one doesn't then I am not spending a fortune on one small weekend getaway (albeit to some kind've pleasure dome...).

Another one was from my friend Alex who is a banker in South Africa and has made some shocking advances in cycling fitness. He said he cycled 2:43 for 108 km's, (remember I did 2 hours and 1 minute for 48.4km on saturday) and he came in 1 minute 30 seconds behind the overall winners. My brother came in 11 minutes behind his time. It is not a completely accurate comparison because riders ride in different groups, and groups go different speeds. And it is a mission to jump out of a group without doing a certain amount of damage to yourself, but not impossible.

The race they have just done is the OFM Classic (this is in the Free State, and in the dorpie which is now a city called Bloemfontein where I was born and grew up). The next head to head between A. Otto and C. van der Leek will be in Johannesburg at a race sponsored by another radio station - the 94.7. Who will be the champ in this race? It will be good to see Alex and my brother ride in the same group. I wonder why they don't? Anyway, it is good inspiration to see them still so aggressive and in good shape. Alex reckons he is going to improve on the form he has now. The question is, what will my brother do? What, I repeat, will he do?

I will need to do some Incredible amounts of training to get back to a good level again. I did do a fantastic 90km timetrial in my last triathlon, so that was a good race to end with. Now I have to work towards that kind of form again. Brick by brick...

I have also heard via the grapevine that another guy we know was so exhausted at the end of the Hawaiian Ironman that he started hallucinating and preaching to the spectators in Afrikaans. Will be good to see the guys in South Africa, and hopefully show them some interesting new tricks I've learned. Once I reach the level that I am expecting to get to I will:

Weave a circle round him thrice,

They will:

and close your eyes with holy dread!

Because I have:

for he on honey-dew hath fed,
and drunk the milk of Paradise.

Which is another way of saying I'm going to kick some butts, especially on the bicycle!
